About the New Love spread
The New Love spread is for someone who is single and open to meeting someone. Its five cards look at what you are really hoping for, what you have to offer right now, what may be keeping love at a distance, what is working in your favour, and where your search is heading if you carry on as you are.
It suits the start of a new chapter: after time alone, before trying dating again, or when you keep meeting the wrong people and want to understand why. It is good at gently separating what you say you want from what you are actually reaching for, and at pointing to one thing you can change.
The positions
- 1What You Want. What are you really looking for?
- 2What You Bring. What do you have to offer right now?
- 3What Is in the Way. What is keeping love from arriving?
- 4What Is on Your Side. What will help you meet the right person?
- 5Where It Is Heading. Where does this search lead if you carry on as you are?
How to lay it out with your own deck
- Shuffle while thinking about the kind of love you would like to find, not about a particular person.
- Lay the first card at the top: What You Want.
- Below it, lay three cards in a row from left to right: What You Bring, What Is in the Way, and What Is on Your Side.
- Lay the last card at the bottom, under the middle of the row: Where It Is Heading.

How to read it
- Read What You Want first and take your time. If it differs from what you would have said out loud, that gap is often the most useful part of the reading.
- The middle row puts the obstacle between what you bring and what helps you. Read the outer two cards as the tools for dealing with the one in the centre.
- What Is in the Way is frequently something inside you, such as caution or an old pattern, rather than a lack of people to meet.
- Where It Is Heading shows your current course. If you dislike it, look again at the obstacle: that is where the course can change.
Questions
- Can tarot tell me when I will meet someone?
- Tarot is not reliable for dates. What it can do is describe what you are looking for, what may be holding you back and what is on your side, so you can see what might help love arrive sooner and be the right kind when it does.
- Should I do this spread about a specific person?
- It works best when you are open rather than focused on one person. If someone is already on your mind, the Love Check-in or the Relationship spread will say more about the two of you.
