About the Healing After a Breakup spread
Healing After a Breakup is a five-card spread for the time after a relationship ends. It looks back once, at what has ended and what it was built on, then turns to you: what you may still be carrying without noticing, what you need now, and where the healing is going. It is not about winning anyone back.
Use it in the weeks or months after a breakup, when the first shock has passed and you want to understand what happened and look after yourself. It is good at bringing quiet feelings to the surface and at turning attention from the other person towards your own recovery, at a pace that feels gentle.
The positions
- 1What Ended. What is passing out of your life?
- 2What It Rested On. What was this relationship built on?
- 3What You Still Carry. What are you holding without noticing?
- 4What You Need. What is missing that you need now?
- 5Where Healing Leads. Where does this go as you heal?
How to lay it out with your own deck
- Shuffle slowly, thinking about the relationship that has ended and about yourself now.
- Lay three cards in a row across the top, left to right: What Ended, What It Rested On, and What You Still Carry.
- Lay a fourth card below the middle of that row: What You Need.
- Lay the last card below that one: Where Healing Leads.

How to read it
- Read What Ended and What It Rested On together. Seeing what the relationship was built on can explain why it ended without making anyone the villain.
- What You Still Carry is often a feeling or belief rather than a memory. A Swords card here may be a story you keep telling yourself; a Cups card may be grief that wants time.
- What You Need and Where Healing Leads sit in a column under the past: read the need as the step that moves you from one to the other.
- If the reading feels heavy, come back to it in a month. Repeating the spread can show how far you have travelled.
Questions
- Can tarot help me get over a breakup?
- It can give you a calm way to look at what happened and how you feel, which is often hard to do alone. The cards are for reflection; if you are struggling for a long time, talking to friends or a counsellor can help in ways a reading cannot.
- What if the cards suggest I still love them?
- That is common and not a sign you have done something wrong. Love often outlasts a relationship. The spread is more interested in what you need now, so read that card closely and let it guide your next step.
