About KnowTarot
KnowTarot is a free tarot website and app for people who want more than a one-line keyword. Every card has its own reading for every position in 32 spreads, so the Three of Swords in “the past” reads differently from the Three of Swords as advice. Alongside readings there is a course that teaches the cards, daily cards to come back to, and a private journal that shows your patterns over time.
How the card meanings are written
The meanings are original writing for KnowTarot: for each of the 78 cards, upright and reversed, a general reading, readings for 20 kinds of spread position and for eight areas of life (love, work, money, health, family, growth, spirit and decisions), and a plain description of the Rider–Waite–Smith picture. Where A. E. Waite’s own divinatory meanings appear they are quoted word for word from The Pictorial Key to the Tarot (1911), which is in the public domain. Astrological correspondences follow the Golden Dawn system, and each deck’s cards are described as they actually appear in that deck.
How a reading is put together
Cards are shuffled and dealt in your browser. The reading for each card is the written text for that card in that position and topic; the summary of the reading as a whole is built by fixed rules from the cards’ balance, suits, numbers, reversals and well-known pairings. No AI writes the readings. They are worded as possibilities to reflect on, not predictions, and nothing on KnowTarot is medical, legal or financial advice.
Your privacy
You can read without an account. With one, your readings, notes and photos are private to you, and you can export or delete everything at any time. Questions and notes never appear in link previews, and visitor counts are anonymous, with no cookies. The privacy page has the details.
