Following a suit: Wands and Cups

Ace to Ten as one story in fire and in water.

Wands: from spark to burden

The Ace of Wands offers a spark. The Two plans from a battlement with the world in hand; the Three watches ships set out. The Four celebrates a milestone under a garland. The Five is a scuffle of competing staffs, and the Six rides home in victory. The Seven defends high ground against the staffs rising from below; the Eight is everything moving at once. The Nine stands guard, bandaged and wary, and the Ten carries the whole bundle, success become a burden.

Cups: from overflowing to fulfilled

The Ace of Cups overflows with feeling. The Two is a meeting of equals; the Three is friends dancing. The Four sits apart, missing the cup being offered. The Five mourns three spilled cups and has not yet turned to the two still standing. The Six remembers childhood; the Seven dreams among too many choices. The Eight walks away from what no longer fills; the Nine sits content, the wish granted. The Ten is a family under a rainbow: lasting happiness shared.

Read the arc

When you draw a Wands or Cups card, place it in its story. Where has the suit come from, and where is it going? A Five of Cups is grief, but it sits between the friendship of the Three and the memory of the Six: loss on the way to something.
