The Fool's journey: through the dark to the world (15–21)

From The Devil to The World: shadow, upheaval, hope and completion.

The last stage is the hardest and the brightest. Having let go of the old self, the traveller meets what they have avoided, is shaken, and comes through into light and completion.

Chains and lightning

The Devil (15) shows two figures loosely chained: attachment, habit, the things we feel bound by. Look closely and the chains are loose enough to lift off. The Tower (16) is the lightning strike: sudden upheaval, a false structure falling, a truth that can no longer be ignored. It is the card readers dread and often the one that frees.

The three lights

After the storm come three lights. The Star (17) is hope and healing, water poured freely under a calm night sky. The Moon (18) is uncertainty, dreams and fear: the path is there, but the light is strange and things are not what they seem. The Sun (19) is clarity, joy and vitality, everything plainly visible.

Waking and arriving

Judgement (20) is a call: waking up, reckoning with the past, answering a vocation. The World (21) completes the journey: wholeness, achievement, a cycle closed. And with the cycle closed, the traveller is a Fool again, ready for the next one.
